After the destruction of the Last Chance and a quick rescue of Platt O’keefe and her Twi’lek ship mate, Tru’eb, Janada fought off a Corellian Gunship and fled back into Ariana with the Volta.

Platt directed her new pleeb to land at a safe spot amid the smoke spewing industrial area of Ariana.  Through a smoky spire the Volta descended into an old power station that serves as HQ for a bloated rebel cell priming itself for an attack on the resident Imperials.  Platt and Tru’eb were scheduled to run a mission for the rebels but with the destruction of her ship the deed was offered to Janada who’s only exception was payment and rights to any valuable opportunities.

The “data-download-and-destruction-dropoff” mission was a success for Janada and her crew and with only minor damage from a couple of TIE fighter blasts.  The Volta is racing back to Ariana when it is confronted by a new threat…

Tython

The year is 3,653 Before the Battle of Yavin (BBY).

Tython is a Deep Core world being re-populated by the remainder of the Jedi order after the Sacking of Coruscant and the destruction of the Jedi Temple. Food, medical supplies, building materials and thousands of artifacts need transporting from Coruscant.

Who better to do it than Gonyn Vek a.k.a. “Captain Starr”, the renowned captain of the Zephyr and her polished crew?

What could possibly happen when the galaxy is politically halved by the Sith Empire, there are riots in the courts of Coruscant and the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic has been murdered?

Tales of the Jedi

This was always my favorite era in the expanded Star Wars universe.  The style was refreshing and seeing the epic story line in the Tales of the Jedi comics was a blast!  I did play the first Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) video game and maybe I will soon play the second one to gain some insight, but in seeing the new MMO coming out by BioWare I am stocked to start a campaign in the post Hyperspace War era.

This campaign will be set nearly 300 years after the final events of KOTOR, the True Sith have returned, the galaxy has spent the last three decades fighting the Great Galactic War only to have it end at the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant.  A terrible darkness seems just around every corner with Sith forces controlling part of the galaxy and the Jedi still reeling from their defense of those same territories.

In this setting players have a multitude of opportunities to either help or deter the Republic in its struggle to regain its dominance in the frontier of the galaxy.

Pro Republic

• Be a Jedi
• Be a star fighter pilot
• Be a trader for Republic forces
• Work in a resistance cell as an information gatherer

Pro Sith

• Be a Dark Jedi
• Be a smuggler
• Be a local thug
• Be a Sith spy/saboteur

Pro Character

• Be a private trader
• Be a mercenary

I am interested in running a campaign on either side of the Force Fence, but the West End Games edition of Star Wars was designed with a Light Side slant, so some extra work will be necessary for a Dark Side campaign to work.  Unless the party consists of at least one Pro Character as a leader, then it seems they would require either a completely unified Light Side/Dark Side party or one destined for strife.  Hmm…  As far as story arc is concerned the latter may be more interesting, but I sense at least one character may wind up in conflict and outside the group.

Look for characters to follow.

A:  It has to be the simplicity of the character and the familiarity of the setting.

Everyone wanting to play a roleplaying game has seen the movies and if they are not able to recite them verbatim, then they are at least familiar with the mood and a couple of characters.

So, now to get writing a compelling character driven story for my players.  Maybe something akin to Guy Ritchie?

In an effort to simplify game-play and focus on elements of story I’ve decided to go vintage star wars and ignore the tactical, number crunching, overly-complicated combat system from D&D 4ed.  In this campaign it’s all about characters and story arcs.

This blog will detail my efforts to understand again the rules of the first game I loved.
